Connecticut Shotgun Mfg. Company has introduced an awesome, high end over and under shotgun.

Here is what their founder has to say:

It is with great excitement that I am announcing our latest shotgun:  The A-10 American™, a full sidelock hand detachable, very low profile over and under shotgun for those who demand the very best. The initial offering of this gun is available in a standard and a deluxe configuration. It can be ordered as a 12 gauge with the option of adding or changing to a 20 or 28 gauge barrel, or it can be ordered as a 20 gauge small action frame with the option of ordering a 28 gauge barrel that can be equipped onto your gun with no need for alteration. This gun is produced in our facility, in New Britain, CT, and is carried out to the highest world standards. Quite frankly I don’t know of another gun that is stronger, or made at a higher level then the A-10 American™. This gun is handmade and exhibits the highest level of the gunmaker’s art. This is a very limited production gun. For the initial group of people that order this fine shotgun, we are offering a special introductory price; and to thank all of our loyal customers, I am offering an additional price consideration for anyone that is a current patron of Connecticut Shotgun.

Please look through our website and if there are any questions that are not answered please give us a call and we will be happy to speak with you. The Benelli Vinci vs. Argentina

The lucky bastards from Shooting Times got to be the first to test Benelli’s new Vinci model out in Argentina. The folks from Benelli allowed them to abuse the latest member of the Benelli family, in an effort to establish the Vinci as one of Benelli’s premier shotguns.

Argentina boasts the largest population of mourning dove in the world. The dove there never migrate and the mild climate allows for 4 to 5 nestings in a single year. Dove are so thick that the farmers call them pests. When you throw in the fact that there are no bag or day limits in Argentina, one begins to see the potential for a sore shoulder. These conditions make a shoot in Argentina like nothing else.

Benelli took the guys from Shooting Times to Cordoba. Home to 30 or 40 million doves on a land mass one-third the size of California. We are talking 1,000 birds per in acre in some areas. A good test area I’d say.

It is standard after a day’s shoot for your shotgun to get a thorough cleaning, but for the test, there would be as much torture as possible, no cleaning or lubricating.

The shoot consisted of three six hour days. They shot 6,375 rounds in 18 hours, more than 25 cases of shells, more than most shoot in an entire dove season.

On the first day the Vinci fired 2,200 shells without one mis-fire. About two hours into the second day, the shotgun failed to eject twice. Keep in mind, we are talking 3,000 rounds with no oil or cleaning. Two drops of oil were applied to the rotating, locking lugs of the bolt and another to the locking lug recesses of the barrel. This was repeated every 50 boxes of shells, or 2500 rounds. After that, not a single malfunction, and if the three drops of oil had been applied after the first 50 boxes there would have been no malfunctions in 6,375 rounds.

If you are not impressed, you don’t know much about shotguns. The volume we are talking in three days rivals what most shotguns see in a lifetime, with virtually no hang-ups. Simply amazing, Benelli has done it again.

The winner is BENELLI VINCI, hands down, it took what Argentina had and came out on top.

Shooting Times goes on to explain all the awesome features of the Vinci, you can read their entire article here.

Let me just say, that if anyone would like for me to test any shotguns in Argentina, I’ll be glad to take one for the team. I know it will be a great sacrifice, but I’ll do it. That’s how I roll, I’m a team player.

Time to RELOAD!

Left Handed Shotgun Catalog

Okay, I’ve been doing a little research on left handed shotguns. I figure I’m not the only left-hander that finds it difficult to find a left handed model. So I compiled a list of left handed shotguns available for 2009.

Hope it helps my fellow left handers in their quest to find a quality left handed shotgun.

Scroll down to get your favorite left handed shotgun added to the catalog!

From Remington:

Although Remington caters more to left handers than others, their 2009 selection of left handed models is pretty slim. The lineup only consists of two models, the 870 Express and 1100 G3. However, the 11-87 premier is still available for around a grand

  • The 870 is the best selling pump in the world, you don’t achieve that without quality.
  • MSRP = $400

  • The 1100 G3 is a new version of the classic 1100. Introduced in 1964, the 1100 is timeless.
  • Semi-automatic
  • MSRP = $1000
  • Specifications

From Benelli:

I was most impressed with Benelli’s lineup of left handed autoloaders. Benelli is known for holding up to the most brutal conditions and it’s nice to know a lefty has the option to go for the top shelf. Here is their left handed options.

  • The M2 is known as Benelli’s workhorse.
  • MSRP = $1400

  • The Super Black Eagle II is a great autoloader, with an affordable price tag.
  • MSRP = $1650 - $1900
  • Specifications

  • The Montefeltro is my favorite, but I’m not real big on synthetic stocks.
  • MSRP = $1300
  • Specifications

From Browning:

Remington and Benelli both had dedicated pages for left handers, after that finding a left handed model became a little tougher. I only found one from Browning.

  • A true left handed over and under, fairly rare, especially with a name like Browning.
  • MSRP = $3500
  • Specifications

From Beretta:

Beretta doesn’t make a dedicated left handed model that I could find, but several of the their models come with a reversible bolt for left handers. Here they are….

$1925

$1925

$1400

$1400

$1550

$1550

Below are recommended models for left-handers, recommended by left-handers!!

  • Not a left handed model, but has bottom ejection and a top safety that makes it very lefty friendly
  • Browning quality
  • Pump-action, several different versions available
  • MSRP = $600-$800
  • In stock at Impact Guns

  • The Ithaca Model 37 is another bottom loader/ejector that lefties prefer.
  • Pump-action

Also, SKB makes quite a few left handed models. I opted not to include their photos because I haven’t the first clue about their quality or reliability. They seem to be more into trap guns and heavy up clay shooting, but you can decide if they are right for you by clicking here.

As far as shopping for left handed shotguns online, Able Ammo is hands down the most lefty friendly. It is as simple as AbleAmmo>Guns>Left Handed Guns>Left Handed Shotguns and you get about 25 shotguns to choose from.

Okay, I’m getting a pretty steady stream of viewers to this page. I’m trying to improve the catalog, so here is what we can do…. fill out the little form below and as I get the models other left handers shoot, I’ll add the specs of your shotguns to the catalog. Hopefully, over time, we can build a comprehensive catalog for all us left-handed, right-minded, shooters.

As of July 4th, votes are Benelli - 150, Browning - 98, Remington - 64, Beretta - 49, Mossberg - 12, Winchester and Franchi - 0.

Remington - An American Legend

Remington's latest

Remington latest, Model 887

Remington is one of the greatest companies in America. Since 1816, Remington has been a leader in firearms, ammunition, targets, and many, many more industries.

The legend is that Remington’s founder, Eliphalet Remington II, believed he could build a better gun than he could buy. Eliphalet then set out to accomplish this task at his father’s forge in New York. In the fall of 1816, Eliphalet entered a shooting match with his handmade flintlock rifle, and as they say, the rest is history. He only finished second, but his gun was a hit and Remington was born. The company was originally named E. Remington & Sons.

Just a few of the companies achievements in the 1800’s are; developing the first hammerless solid breech repeating shotgun, the first hammer-less autoloading shotgun, the first successful high-powered slide action repeating rifle, and the first lock breach autoloading rifle. Not to mention, manufacturing type-writers, sewing machines, and cash registers, all in the USA.

Early in the 1900’s, Remington began making hunting knives, household utensils, and clothing.

In 1933, due to the great depression, Remington offered a controlling share to Dupont and on May 24th, Dupont acquired 60% of Remington. Dupont would become the sole owner of Remington later, and would own Remington until 1993.

Remington became the leader in trap and target equipment with their purchase of Chamberlin Trap & Target Company in 1934.

In 1940, the US government approached Remington to expand their production of ammunition through the construction of several new plants. The government wanted to build the plants and put Remington in charge of running the plants. A wise move with World War II fast approaching. I feel this says a lot about how important Remington was and still is to the United States.

The world’s best-selling pump action shotgun was introduced in 1950. The Model 870 “Wingmaster” took the shotgun world by storm and is still outperforming their competition. Shortly after, Remington introduced the first plastic body shotshells, I guess it didn’t hurt having DuPont backing the plastic research.

The sixties weren’t only good for hippies, as Remington introduced two of their most popular models, the Model 700 bolt-action rifle in 1962, and the Model 1100 autoloading shotgun (the father of my gun, the 11-87) in 1963. The 1100 took three years to develop.

24 years later Remington launched Model 11-87. The 11-87 was and improvement to the original 1100. The 11-87 could take up to a three inch shell when it came out and now they have models of the 11-87 that take up to 3 1/2 inch mags. Remington has produced over 52 different versions of the 11-87, but the 1100 has made a come back in the target shooting world. The real selling point is Remington’s patented pressure compensating gas system. The 11-87 is a workhorse. Reliability and low-recoil make it a pleasure to shoot, I’ve been shooting a 11-87 Premier for close to ten years.

As the 21st century came Remington didn’t slow down as they introduced the most significant advance in rifle and ammunition since the self-contained cartridge, the EtronX System. The EtronX is an electronic ignition system for centerfire rifles and ammunition.

The list of all Remington’s new products this decade would take two pages but here are some highlights; the MODEL 710, high performance rifle- low cost (2001), the introduction of ‘REM CHOKES’ (2002), a revamped gun safe line (2003), Model 1100 Competition released (2005), and Remington produces its first side by side models since 1910 with the Premier Side by Side line (2007).

I could go on and on about the history of this great American company. For 193 years, Remington has been on the cutting edge of the firearm industry and much more.

I’m proud to own a Remington and I’m proud to be an American. Come and take’em!

Left-Handed Shotguns

Left-Hand Shotguns are few and far between. Finding one that has any style can be hard and expensive. I’m in the market for an over-under 20 ga. or 28 ga. and am getting frustrated. I listen to my brother going over all his options and I’m stuck choosing between plain and plainer. Currently, I shoot a Remington 1187 Premier automatic. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Remington. It’s been a great shotgun, but when your brother shoots a $3000 Browning and your Dad shoots a $2000 Beretta, well, it makes you dream a little.

I was looking online at Impact Guns website and found  thousands of beautiful shotguns, right-handed shotguns, that is. Here is the gun I’m leaning towards…

The Franchi made combination 20/28 ga. over/under is a real beauty. It weighs less than six pounds and has recoil technology to reduce 44% of felt recoil. A price tag of $2350 makes it expensive but not outrageous. I can only find one thing wrong with this shotgun, I don’t know how it will shoot with my left-handedness. So, now I’m stuck with two choices, buy the gun on my instinct, or drive all over Texas trying to find one I can mount and get a feel for. Really three choices, the third being when to piss my wife off and tell her I’m buying a new hunting dog and shotgun. Oops, she just read it, damn.

For the first several years I shot a Winchester 1300 right-handed pump and never knew what I was missing, until Dad got me the left-handed 1187. My score at the skeet range instantly improved by 5 clays. My confidence in the field was off the chart and it showed in my bird bag. So I know that a shotgun can make a huge difference and I don’t want to make a $2300 mistake.

The bottom line is, if your looking for a good left-handed automatic shotgun, buy a Remington 1187 Premier. If your looking for an upgrade to the Remington, one that will compete with the nicer right-handed models…………….YOUR SCREWED., just like me.
