TPWD seeking dove leases

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is seeking to lease some more dove land for its public land. Landowners interested can click HERE for more information or call 512/389-4505.

This a great opportunity for farmers to make some short term cash. The state generally pays about $5 per acre of land leased and pays 45 days after public hunts conclude. Depending on what zone the land is in the lease lasts from September through early November. Not a bad lick if you’ve got the land.

Mr. Edmiston of the TPWD gave this criteria on the land they are looking for,

“We are looking for properties that are at least 50 or more acres where hunting is legal, with access, food, water and cover to attract dove,” said Kelly Edmiston with TPWD’s public hunting program. “Ideal sites have a good food source such as grain crops; sunflowers, croton (goat weeds), water or that have become recently fallowed.”

If you are a hunter and know someone who may be interested pass this on to them so we can have some more choices to hunt on.
