Follow the 2010 Shot Show @ Browning.com

Filed under: Recent News — Tags: — admin @ 9:39 pm

Starting tomorrow, Browning will begin their coverage of the 2010 Shot Show. Not to mention, they are offering some pretty good deals.

There is no event that is more important for the hunting and shooting business than the annual Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show (SHOT Show). And it is huge, with over 707,000 square feet of exhibit space and 1,700 exhibitors. Over 1,400 media people will be there covering the show. The SHOT Show comes around once a year and next week is the big week. Just like last year, Browning will offer you blog updates of activities as well as details on product introductions at the Show along with video, articles and photos.

This year’s Show is in Las Vegas, Nevada, which is just a short hop for those of us living out West, working at the Browning headquarters in Morgan, Utah.

Last year the big worry was the direction of the economy. And although times have been very rough for many of you across the country, the mood leading up to this SHOT Show is very optimistic. 2009 was a pretty good year for the industry and we expect the mood to be very positive with many great new products from the best companies. As for Browning, you can expect more excitement, more fun and more great products than ever.

——————————————————————————-

As with last year, Browning’s special Web coverage of the Show will focus heavily on the new in-line products with extra attention given to the rarest of Browning products: the SHOT Show specials. These products — from every category in the Browning lineup — are offered to dealers only at the SHOT Show and usually manufactured in limited quantities. These are not only some of the most interesting and unique products made, but over the years they have proven to be some of the most collectable.

This year the SHOT Show runs from Tuesday, January 19 through Friday the 22nd. 2010 product is online right now, but expect SHOT Show specials to be available online by Tuesday. And, using the link on our home page, you can go to our running blog with extra details and observations from the Browning product managers. Since this is a trade show – not a consumer show – we hope to give you an insider look with our Web coverage.

Last year, with nearly 50,000 in total attendance and with its ranking as the 23rd largest trade show in the United States and Canada, it was truly an impressive gathering. Nearly 2,000 exhibitors are starting in the next few days to set up for the show.

To be a part of the excitement, simply go to browning.com starting Tuesday morning and we should be up and running with our first special reports. We’ll see you there.

When you visit Browning.com next week be sure to visit the SHOT Show blog section for updates, videos and details on new and special products.

——————————————————————————-

I’ll do my best to keep you posted on the specials that go on at the 2010 Shot Show.

Timney’s New 870 Trigger

The folks at Timney Manufacturing have solved one of the few problems with the world’s best selling shotgun.

From Shooting Illustrated:

(Click on the picture to visit Timney’s website)

Price: $89.00

Here is an excert from the Shooting Illustrated article.

The 870 shotgun has many applications for hunters, sport shooters and as a defensive weapon. It can be an upland bird, duck or turkey shotgun, it can be a slug gun for deer and with interchangeable choke tubes it can be all the above. Similarly, the 870 platform is just as versatile for law enforcement, those interested in home defense and three-gun competitors. Whether you employ your 870 for one or all these tasks, and no matter how your 870 is configured, Timney’s new drop-in unit will fit and eliminate the weak link of an otherwise exceptional firearm.

Upland Bird Country Review

Filed under: Hunting Reviews, Quail Hunting — Tags: , — admin @ 11:25 am

Recently my brother did a little quail hunting courtesy of the folks at Upland Bird Country. He had a blast and I asked him to write up a review for all you bird hunters who live near Dallas, TX. Thanks bro.

Game Hunted: Quail

Cost: $185/person for unguided quail hunt.  Different packages and birds are offered for varying prices. Guide and dog are also available for a per group rate.

The hunt: After looking at Upland Country’s website for awhile, I finally decided to give it a try. It was worth it. I chose the quail hunt package for $185. Upland Bird Country provides 18 birds in the package.

Even though I was hunting alone, I was able to get a field to myself. The terrain was thick enough to allow good cover for the birds, but not so bad that you couldn’t get through it. The quail were good size and good, fast fliers. I noticed that right away as I missed the first couple of birds that were flushed.

All of the birds I shot were after they were flushed by my dog. I didn’t have any of the those birds that you have to kick to get to off the ground.

Upland Bird Country allows hunters to bring their own dogs, which was a definite plus. I was able to get my lab some good work flushing quail. She’s turned into a pretty good all around dog for both dove and quail.

Overall, it was good day. Upland Bird Country was definitely a good find, especially for those close to the Dallas area.
